A former pub manager mentioned, "Marstons is an awful company to work for. They literally do not care about their staff whatsoever. Their view is, there is always someone else who will do the job, and have no issues in messing someones life up. They caused me serious medical issues from working for them"
Former Employee - Bar/Kitchen Staff says"Lack of on the job training initially. Learning as you go. Need to make mistakes to learn too often. The owner."
Former Employee - Line Chef says"Head management haven't got a clue. Treated like nothing."
Current Employee - Retail Manager says"Refusing to top up salary to 100% during the covid 19 crisis is shameful. Upper management acting like they are doing everyone a favour and really looking after their team when they are only providing the bear minimum is disgusting."
Former Employee - Supervisor says"Thanks so much for your review of Marston's as an employer. t's disappointing to hear that you wouldn't recommend us as an employee, particularly after working for us for so long. I will pass your comments on to our HR team, I know they are currently working on systems and training to assist our Pub Managers in the often difficult task of rota management. We take the views and feelings of our former and current employee's very seriously and if you would like to discuss any of the above in confidence then you can do so by contacting me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Many thanks Vicky Holden Recruitment Manager"

Former Employee - Waitress says"Many thanks for taking the time to leave us some feedback, it's great to hear that you enjoyed the variety your role gave you, as well as the team that you worked with. We are sorry to hear that you felt forced to leave, particularly when you have been carrying out a variety of duties - that's a real value to your Manager! Waitress/Bar Staff (Current Employee) says"Not very supportive.. aslong as shifts get covered that’s all that matters.. nice staff to work with and a nice clean environment.. very busy place to workClose to homeNo support"
Second Chef (Former Employee) says"In the interview you’re promised the world, good pay, work/life balance, 2 days off a week, but in reality the manager and assistants are obsessed by profit and targets which has a knock on effect to the kitchen, sending through as many orders as possible, under staffed in the kitchen, clueless front of house staff. The place is a joke, rubbish pay 12-14hr shifts, expected to know ‘The Marstons wat’after your first shiftHonestly.. there is nonShort staffed, under paid, no breaks, not abiding by Covid 19 rules, I could go on"
Kitchen Porter (Former Employee) says"Bad mismanagement, poor hours often cut short by labour saving, management often ridicule staff in front of others, poor food, servers were great, but again led by bad management, had to buy own work clothes as they took to long to order for staffNoneBad management"
Dogsbody (Former Employee) says"Where to start.. Working for Marston sis the biggest mistake I ever made. Area manager disinterested and if your looking for support it was non existent. Rather than training the staff they allow substandard food to be served. And prefer to employ and dangle a carrot.Tgey treated not only me and my assistant manager and all the staff with total disregard for our needs. I never write on the reviews but feel that ii wouldn't want to see people used by this company"
Housekeeper (Former Employee) says"Terrible management drugs being used on premises by management Everyone who worked there whilst I worked there have found other employment for other pubs in the area Really bad name in local community The hotel keeps the pub running as contractors need to stay there The pub would have gone under long ago"
2nd Chef (Former Employee) says"Wouldn't advise to work to anyone.overworked underplayed.relable hours contract is waste of time.poor products bad management for the hard workers out there take a wide berth.managment sum good ones out there but far apart but most of them creep to the area manager and the area managers do the same so for the good hard workers that stand up for themselves you'll get more sense of banging your head at a brick wall.None unless you creepOver worked and no thanks"
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) says"A disgusting company where management will always pass the blame onto a higher manager and where they have no disregard for the awful treatment of their staff. Do not invest in staff training or progression and use people until the respected employee takes a stand, which where they are then wrongfully dismissed. They are also too slack on the personal well-being of staff."
Kitchen Assistant (Former Employee) says"It’s shocking, make you work terrible hours. Late nights and not even any days off most of the time it’s a half day, it’s bad and the management is so bad and unorganisedNoneLots"
Front of House Staff (Former Employee) says"This was my first job but would not recommend if under 18 as the hours and pay were poor. The staff and mamagment at this establishment were awful as well as the hygiene standards."
Line chef (Current Employee) says"Work life balance was non existent, there are no good perks to the job, just 30% off food if your on shift. head chef is so stressy shouted at everyone, manager is horrible.NoneLong split shifts"
Team Member (Former Employee) says"They don’t care about employees. By this, I mean the pay is terrible for what you have to put up with, and the hours they except you to work. They put you on a zero hour contract so they can mess around your rota with minimal notice. The area managers don’t take action upon any complaints you make and that means you are stuck with the same issues unless you leave. Working there destroyed my mental health due to how unprofessional the whole place is and that they couldn’t care at all about their staff to deal with the problems and concerns that we had. DO NOT WORK THERESome of my coworkers and customersEverything"
Head Chef/Kitchen Manager (Former Employee) says"Did my best for company worked long shifts Nd hard was let down by my company used and told off when they meant give me training for 2 years I did everything and no thanks if want be used for as dog see no family and no respect do it"

Chef (Former Employee) says"I was asked to come back and work for the waterloo cross as a chef. I accepted on condition I had set days as I have my children in which they agreed 2 weeks in to working there they go back on there word and only give me 15 hours a week. There is no support from managers including area managers in anyway shape or form the whole company works backwards"
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) says"Expect you to run a venue with no support. Dodgey dealings with management spending entertainment on pretend entertainment. Expected to do ten peoples job."
Pizza Chef (Former Employee) says", the changing rooms where dirty the staff are horrible, manager is a bully (head chef) picked on me for no reason had a go at me for being lazy even tho I was on washing up"
Front of House Staff (Former Employee) says"Awful company they have no concern for there employees terrible management intact hardly any concern for the customer either would stay as far from them as possible"
Head Chef (Former Employee) says"My role was very demanding with no qualified chefs in the business I was finding it very hard to hit the standards required. And the support was only given when asked for no real training was being given to successfully do the role. And the recruiting was a nightmare as the wages was rubbish for the amount of hours expecting to do. A kp that finished at 9.30 at night on a weekend so the chefs had to clean the whole kitchen after a busy Friday or Saturday night. Most days I was doing 15 hours plus and only 1 day off a week. So would never suggest anyone work for these if you enjoy your quality family time or time off to relax.clean"
Chef (Former Employee) says"Management is terrible I worked for a marstons pub called the chestnut tree and the work I had to do on my own was tough, management couldn't care less if the carvery was empty I still had to serve customers that were waiting in the que and get spoken to horribly by the customers because of the silly management"
Public House Manager (Former Employee) says"You work hard for low pay promises are never kept choose another career in have no more to say always take anything they ask you to sign to a solicitor first it will save you a lot in the future"
